British dominance at the Arenal Training Camps Trophy

British sailors have dominated the Arenal Training Camps Trophy, the Olympic classes regatta organised by Club Nàutic S’Arenal as a test for the Princesa Sofia Mapfre Trophy.

 

More than 150 boats and 250 sailors took part this weekend at this regatta, which has been sailed with spring sun and varied wind conditions.

 

Podium for Great Britain in 49er. The Arenal Training Camps Trophy has seen a fierce battle between Pink and Peacok and Morrison and Rhodes, who finished with just one point of advantage over second classified. Third place was also for British team Dylan Fletcher y Alain Sign, at thirteen points from the leaders.

 

British sailor Paul Goodison, favourite for London 2012 in Laser Standard, won with 23 points advantage over Spanish sailor Javier Hernández. Third place was for Swedish sailor Emil Cedergarth, with a total of 35 competitors crossing the starting line in this class.

 

33 entries in Laser  Radial saw Finnish sailor Tuula Tenkanen climb to the top of the standings followed by British sailor Charlotte Dobson and Argentinian sailor Cecilia Caranza second and third respectively.

 

Victory for Danish team Henriette Koch and Lene Sommer in 470 women. Second and third place were for Brazilian sailors Fernanda Oliveira and Ana Luiza Barbacham followed by team from Israel Gil Coher and Boskila Vered.

 

The 42 boats entered in the 470 men had the opportunity to sail many races that brought some irregular results. The winners were Russian sailors Mikhail and Maxim Sheremetyen with 13 points advantage over second classified team Onán Barreiros and Aarón Sarmiento from Spain with two disqualifications in their scores. Third place was for Canadian sailors Luke Ramsay and Mike Leigh.
